Our carpet is woven on a Jacquard loom which is programmed using Jacquard cards. Each card has holes which instruct the individual needles when to engage and when not to engage. The Jacquard loom inspired punch cards technology and was the first instrument to use the binary system which in turn led to the computer. It takes hundred of cards to create the detailed ornamentation of the Fox carpet.
To ensure the highest quality product, every square inch is inspected by hand in a process called “burling”. If a portion of the carpet is not up to par, it is cut out and sewn in by hand.
One of the final steps is sheering the carpet to make sure it is all exactly the same height.
“When they built the Fox, they built it sound and they built it right.”
